HEADTEACHER’S
WELCOME
It is my pleasure to offer this introduction to this
prospectus, which will give you an insight into the work,
approach and values of Olchfa School. We welcome
applications for places in Year 7 for September entry,
but also throughout the year for all year groups,
including the Sixth Form.
Olchfa is a large and busy school but also one that retains a family
feel. Results in external examinations in Years 10-13 regularly
place the students of the school amongst the highest achieving
in Wales. This arises from a very high standard of teaching based
upon excellent relationships for learning, an atmosphere of mutual
respect and learning which takes place in partnership, especially
with you as families. The school’s governing body, leadership Julian Kennedy
teams and staff in all roles work hard to place children at the
centre of all we do, continuing to evolve and develop as needed. HEADTEACHER
Important though results are, Olchfa School is about far more than
academic outcomes. Our moral purpose matters hugely as we
work to help develop well-rounded young people who are ready
for the world. We try hard to make Olchfa a positive place, where
young people can thrive. We embrace diversity and inclusivity as
drivers of a rich and vibrant school community. To support young
people and to help build their resilience, Olchfa offers an excellent
package of pastoral care, promoting health and wellbeing and the
help needed to overcome any barriers to learning.
Just as importantly, Olchfa is a school of opportunity and,
hopefully, joy. Your children will have the chance to try new
experiences, to visit new places and to showcase their talent,
whatever form it takes. We celebrate the achievements of our
students, in and out of school. We want Olchfa to both reflect
and shape the communities it serves, working in partnership with
primary schools, local businesses and organisations and, most
importantly, you as families.
I hope this prospectus gives you a flavour of the school. The best
way to truly know the school is to see it for yourself. We welcome
visits by prospective pupils and their parents or carers throughout
the year, including at our formal events. If you require any further
information please contact our admissons officer,
who will be happy to help.
