learning. We take a person-centred approach and listen to the
views of pupils and their parents/carers about how they like to be
supported in school. Where pupils need support in their learning,
we offer a wide range of universal learning support including
‘catch-up’ literacy/numeracy small group sessions and support
for pupils with dyslexia or speech and language difficulties. For
pupils who need more targeted support, we have clear processes
to identify any specific difficulties in their learning and guide
them towards the most appropriate support. This may include
consideration of whether their needs might best be met through
the development of an Individual Development Plan (IDP) in line
with the Additional Learning Needs Code for Wales. We can
access support from specialist services, such as an Educational
Psychologist or Specialist Teachers.
We have well developed approaches to support pupils with social
communication difficulties or diagnosed neurodevelopmental
disorders such as ASD and ADHD. We have an ASD champion in
the school, who has been trained in line with the SCERTS model
to support pupils. The school also has good links with specialists
within the Local Authority and NHS and, where necessary, we can
support referrals to access these external services.
We welcome visits to the school by pupils with additional learning
needs and their families from Year 5 onwards. We also welcome
invitations to attend person centred review meetings in primary
schools from Year 5. If you would like to arrange a private visit
to Olchfa, please contact Mr Robert Williams (Senior Assistant
Headteacher/ALNCo) at the school.
Pupil Voice | Llais y Disgybl
At Olchfa, we love listening to the views of our pupils. We have
a number of formal and informal mechanisms for encouraging
pupils to participate in giving their opinions on a range of aspects
of school life. We have a very active School Council, with lots of
opportunities for pupils to contribute in shaping what their school
can offer. Our pupil voice groups take a leading role in supporting
a range of local and national charities and organising fundraising
events across the year.
School Uniform | Gwisg Ysgol
Olchfa’s school uniform is fairly traditional and we expect our
pupils to be smart for school. We expect pupils and their parents
will support us in adhering to wearing the published school
uniform. Many items of the school uniform are unbranded,
allowing families to choose to purchase reasonably priced items
from competitive retailers. The current Olchfa uniform list can be
found on the main school website.
